Biography

Born in the UK, Johnny Lippiett started his musical education playing with Rhythm and Blues bands. After travelling around North America and Canada learning the language of Jazz, his versatile musicianship and uniquely personal style won him a place in the finals of the prestigious young Jazz musician of the year ('96), which led to work with Jazz luminary Courtney Pine. Whilst living in London ('97), he led groups at many esteemed venues such as the Barbican, the Jazz Cafe, the Bulls Head and the 606 Club.

After moving to New Zealand ('99), Johnny quickly became established as one of the most respected and in demand musicians on the scene. He has been a featured artist at many of the international festivals -winning the best music award at the Fringe festival ('02). He is regularly busy with concerts, recording, radio broadcasts, visiting overseas artists and complementing his success as a musician, he is on Academic staff at the New Zealand school of music where he lectures in saxophone and related studies. He is also a NZ clinician for Selmer Paris saxophones.

Johnny recently returned to London in 07, to lead a two tenor combo with European sax giant Mornington Lockett. Playing choice venues with top musicians, he again quickly re-established himself as one of the new voices in modern British Jazz.
Johnny currently divides his time between living in London and Wellington and maintains a busy schedule working in both Europe and Australasia.
